Стоянка 1. Хвар

The island’s hub and busiest destination, Hvar Town is estimated to draw around 20,000 people a day in the high season. It’s odd that they can all fit in the small bay town, where 13th-century walls surround beautifully ornamented Gothic palaces and traffic-free marble streets, but fit they do.

Sights:

St Stephen’s Square
Franciscan Monastery & Museum (15th-century)
Renaissance Theatre (1612)
Cathedral of St Stephen (built in the 16th and 17th centuries)
Fortica
Arsenal (historical building 1611)
Bishop’s Treasury MUSEUM
Benedictine Monastery

Beaches:

There are coves around the hotels Amfora and Dalmacija for swimming, as well as the
fancy Bonj Les Bains beach run by Sunčani Hvar Hotels, with stone beach cabanas for
open-air massages and expensive lounge chairs (650KN per day for two chairs).

A popular boat excursion (40KN, 20 minutes) is to Mekićevica bay on the south side
of the island, where there’s a great beachfront restaurant called Robinson (www.
robinson-hvar.hr).

Taxi boats also run to Milna (50KN; 30min).

Also on the south side are other great beaches such as Zaraće, Dubovica,
Lušišće and Sveta Nedelja/Ivan Dolac.

Beaches:

For a total veg-out at the beach, nothing beats the offshore islands of Proizd
and Osjak. The clear, blue water and white stones of Proizd are dazzling,
while Osjak, the larger island, is known for its forest.

Стоянка 4. Помена

Sights:

The highlights of the island are Malo Jezero and Veliko Jezero, the two lakes on the island’s western end connected by a channel. Veliko Jezero is connected with the sea by the Soline Canal, which makes the lakes subject to tidal flows.

In the middle of Veliko Jezero is an islet with a Benedictine monastery. The monastery was originally built in the 12th century but has been rebuilt several times, adding Renaissance and baroque features
to the Romanesque structure.

Renting a bicycle (25/110KN per hour/day) is an excellent way to explore the national park. Several places have bikes, including Hotel Odisej in Pomena.
